New website identifies Florida law enforcement officers with disciplinary records

A new online database shows officers who have been through disciplinary hearings with the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission over the past decade. Created by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and launched in June, the website lists law enforcement agencies in Florida and generates reports showing officers’ names, offenses and the kind of disciplinary action taken. It does not show disciplinary cases from the officers’ own police departments or sheriff’s offices. It also does not show cases until after the state hearing wraps up, often after the officer has already left the force.
Ken Adams, a criminal justice professor at the University of Central Florida, told WESH-2 the site provides instant results for searches that could take much longer through public records requests.
